The article I read about was "A Sniff Of Your Sweetie." The article was about how people, women in general sniff their family members, or significant others items, such as clothing. It gives the person (s) a sense of comfort while the others are away. It also said that women even sleep with their partner's clothing. One man smells his father's clothing while he was away and a mother placed her pajamas in her daughters bed when the mom couldn't be there. This gives the person a sense of comfort while the person is away. A university of Pittsburgh study says that it is normal behavior for people to do this. Reasearchers who surveyed under-grads in long-term relationships found over 90% of women and over half of the men smelled their partners shirts or blouses. Women have more interest in their partner's smell then men may hark back to evolutioary forces, possibly reflecting greater female choosiness in mate selection says reasearchers Melanie L. Shoup and Sybil A. Streeter. Many parenting guides suggest leaving the mother's shirt with her baby during day care.
I think that this is really interesting to know, how smelling someones stuff gives you a comforting feeling. I have seen it, because girls wear their boyfriends clothes to school, or just have their boyfriends sweatshirt. I think this is good to know in psychology.
